Birth certificates now to be issued within a week

The Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA) has said it has improved its systems and hence reduced time taken in issuance of birth certificates from one month to barely a week now.

According to RITA, out of 44.9 million populace only 23 percent or 19 million of Tanzanians have birth certificates this could partially be as a result of the number of days it was taking for one to get a birth certificate.

Speaking to journalists at a news conference in Dar es Salaam last week, RITA’s Public Relations and Marketing Manager, Josephat Kimaro, said that agency’s systems of registration have been improved allowing for reduced time it takes to release the certificate.

“In recent years, it took up to about one month to obtain a birth certificate after application but we are now moving ahead… after some improvements it now takes only a week for one to get the birth certificate,” noted Kimaro.

The authority has pledged to continue work on improving service so as to enable the society get their birth certificates in less than a week.
