Minister orders headmasters in Maswa to establish computer classes in all Sec Schools


THE MINISTER for Livestock and Fisheries, Mr Mashimba Ndaki has called on Head Masters of all Secondary Schools in Maswa District, Simiyu Region to establish Computer Classes in all Secondary Schools to enhance Information and Communications Technologies (I CT) teaching and learning.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of ICT facilities held yesterday in Simiyu Region, the Minister said that the main goal of the sixth phase of the government led by President Samia Suluhu is to ensure that it builds the capacity of secondary school students to adapt to all changes in this modern technology, especially in the ICT field.

Minister Ndaki who is also the Member of Parliament for Maswa West Constituency, said this during the handing over ceremony of 10 computers and 2 Printers to two Secondary Schools in the District namely Buchambi Secondary School and Badi Secondary School.

He said the existence of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) does not transform teacher practices in and of itself. However, ICTs can enable teachers to transform their teaching practices, given a set of enabling conditions.

“The main goal is to see the government efforts has been accomplished, we are now committed to ensuring that all students in Secondary Schools do not miss computer classes, this would help all students especially to those students who will be qualified to go to university levels to adopt this modern changes,” he said.

He said that by recognizing that, he decided to hand over the items, whereby each school received 5 computers and one printer.

He also called upon teachers of the schools that have received the items to put in place measures that will ensure they protect all equipment handed over to them and to ensure they are safe so that they can benefit a large number of students in the region.

For his part, Maswa District Commissioner, Aswege Kaminyoge said that in supporting these efforts of the sixth phase of the government on improving education sector, the government plans to establish a special ICT centre to train this subject for teachers and students to further expand their knowledge in the field.

“We are truly grateful to the Sixth phase of the Government for handing over these items, today we have received 10 computers and 2 printers for Buchambi and Badi Secondary Schools, this will greatly help increase the capacity of our students and teachers in the whole issue of Information and Communication Technology (ICT),” he said.

He said that the equipment that was being handed over to them by the government will be a great help to teachers as well as students in supporting the whole issue of technology as well as communication.
