Tanzania: President Samia appriciates crucial role of armed forces

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has on Monday officiated the fifth general meeting of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Tanzania Peoples Defense Force (TPDF)’s Commanders 302 KV and underlined the crucial role of the armed forces in protecting the country’s territorial integrity.

President Samia who is also Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces has also commended the good work done by the security forces which enabled the nation to cross safely after the death of President Dr John Pombe Magufuli in March this year.

“In 60 years, the Armed Forces have done a great job of protecting and maintaining the security of our borders and our independence which is a very important tool for economic, political and social development,” the President said.

Samia said that she is aware that TPDF in collaboration with other security agencies has all the qualities, vigilance and stability that bring praise to Tanzania locally and abroad.

The President has also lauded the Army’s annual meeting that set goals in discussing various challenges they face and find solutions, a situation that gives them an opportunity to self-assess and how to deal with those challenges.

“The Tanzanian Army has been a role model in the East African region, Southern Africa and the world at large where it has always fulfilled all national and international responsibilities,” she said.

She pointed out that the government has deployed Special Forces on the Tanzania-Mozambique border in the Mtwara region to strengthen security and stability as well as restore economic activities in the area.

The Commander-in-Chief has assured the TPDF that the Government will provide all kinds of assistance to enable them to fulfil their responsibilities.

Samia also called on various institutions including the media and civil society to work with the Defense and Security Forces to educate the public on the importance of peace and the consequences of engaging in terrorist acts.
